Today I HAVE to share this DIY I came across. I woke up at like 4am & ended up coming across this blog. I have never read it before, so I assume my 4am wakeup call was a preordination for me to find this post (I don’t think that’s a word, but hey it works). I know some of you have gorgeous scarves & a sweatshirt or two (million) sitting around. If you have basic sewing skills (or a friend or relative who is), you’ve gotta try this!
This phenom took this:
And made THIS!!!!
So obviously, none of these pics are mine. I just had to share them because she absolutely inspired me! Now I gotta go get some scarves & coordinating sweatshirts. And who can’t use an excuse to buy more of either?! lol Anyway, I hope this DIY has inspired you to make one, have someone make you one, or go on the hunt for one like it. Oh yeah, I’ve linked the pics to her post & if you have problems getting it to work, here’s her link:

I’ll have more sweets & treats for you tomorrow on my Work Wear Wednesday special, so come back soon!

We call work “the grind” for a reason, but it doesn’t have to be all bad! So let’s focus on the positive. Look great while you’re at work & the compliments make the day fly by! Here are some great fall looks that’ll have you feeling better while making that money…
As soon as I saw these bracelets, I fell in love with them! They have the perfect amount of flair for everyday wear, but are conservative if you have a more modest workplace atmosphere. They come in a ton of colors, so you’re sure to find one that suits your fashion palette! They are debuting at only $20, so get an armload for you or a friend!
(Click the picture to see an enlarged photo)
Up next, a new collection of workplace pieces that will blow your mind!
Not to sound arrogant, but I’m always hearing “I love your outfit, especially your jewelry!” It’s almost always followed by the same question. “How did you know to put those pieces together?” Or, “I wish I could put together outfits in my closet like that.” I always reply, “YOU CAN!” It just takes a little time, patience & imagination.
We as women know that when you find something great, share it with your friends!! So as I share my techniques with you, promise to share it with your friends. Or better yet, show them! When they see you with your revamped, “new” wardrobe, they’ll want to know how you did it!
I remember school shopping with my parents & having to put on a “Fashion Show” using all the items I’d just gotten. Even though it seemed to be the most unnecessary practice, I can now see its benefit. You get to see the colors in real lighting (store lighting is horribly deceptive) & you get to toss on accessories to see how it’ll really work for you!
So I’ve compiled some looks that are great for any lady at any stage. I’ve found this lady who does the BEST videos on outfits for curvy girls (yes, I am one) but they are global looks so they’ll work for anyone. If you love her ideas like I do, like her videos & subscribe. Tell her The Jewelry Lady send you!
Ok, so on to the good stuff. To make it easier to browse, I’ve listed sites & links here for your enjoyment. So by using these along with my Wardrobe Test will ensure you have a vibrant, functional wardrobe all year long!
Great work outfit ideas…
It’s really chilly here, so these are great ways to modify your cape…
This one is great, but I must make one note. Do not wear a sheer shirt to work! Showing your bra is not cool. Throw a cami underneath & you’re good to go! Without further ado…
Great tips for wearing jackets…
Great ways to wear blazers…
Finally, rock that denim vest…
Thanks for hanging out & I’ll be back with more shares soon!

Say it with me:
I think you get the idea. So let’s do something about it. You want more space in your closet. (probably to fill it up again, but that’s not what I’m focusing on! lol) No judgement. Anyway, even if you want to clean your closet out to go shopping again or if you want to make it look prettier, you need a plan of action. Don’t just jump in, get frustrated & give up. It could end up looking worse than when you started! So here are a few tips & tricks that will help you clean out. I’ll post some more ideas on how to make your closet pretty soon, so be on the lookout! Here are some items to consider tossing:
That’s right! Anything too tight, too revealing or some outdated fashion fad (that never should have existed) is a good candidate to toss. Here are some tips to make room for your fall clothes:
1. Cut down your closet by 25% by asking yourself this one question: “If I were shopping right this second, would I buy this?” If the answer’s no, out it goes.
2. If you have a small closet, never keep your shoes in clunky shoe boxes. Instead, line up them on the floor or use a tension rod. Line them up side by side with the heel of one shoe next to the toe of the next & save even more space!
3. Don’t buy items you know you won’t properly care for. For example, if you know you’re never going to hand-wash that delicate cami or beaded sweater, don’t buy it.
4. Have an item you need to part with but don’t know how to let it go? Give it to a friend who always eyed it! Gifting items is a great way to part with a loved item.
5. Swap with a friend or group of friends! Include clothing, jewelry, handbags & other accessories. Then exchange info on sales & deals & make a girl’s night out of it!
6. Donate to a women’s shelter or homeless shelter.
7. Donate to a local school. Most schools have a clothes pantry.
9. Is it beyond repair? Consider using it as a dusting rag!
10. Host your own giveaway! Use Craigslist or Facebook to advertise it & let people come take what they need. You don’t have to do it at your house, either. Utilize a local park, ask a church to allow you to use their space, or find a free meeting room (like at Deep Roots) and “give” away!
Here’s a video on how to make the most out of really tight spaces. Even if your space isn’t small, you can still optimize the space you have! Then after the video, there are some fashion staples that will make updating your look easy.
Here’s the link to the video to cut/paste in case the picture link doesn’t work:

Love thrifting? Me too! Sometimes you have accessories that you want to match up & you don’t have anything in your closet to match them. I am notorious for keeping a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a necklace set for years until I find an outfit to match. What can I say, when I find something I like, I really commit to it! A friend of mine turned me on to thrifting years ago & I haven’t gone back. Don’t get me wrong, I love my name brand items, but I also have responsibilities. So I found that thrifting for home decor & a few clothing items really helped me spread the wealth around (aka getting some retail therapy in without killing my budget)!
Since I’ve started, I have found some really great items for next to nothing! I recently found 3 name brand, high end pieces & got them for under $10 each! One was a suede zipper vest that was brand spanking new. Paid less than $4 for it!! Not to mention the great home decor you can find. Grab some cool stuff, get a can of gold spray paint & go to town!! Our house gets tons of compliments on items we’ve found while thrifting (only a select few know my secret-otherwise they’d snag all the stuff). My neighbor stays mad at us. Here’s why. I found a Thomasville Furniture entertainment center that retails for over $500. I only paid $25 for it! We also have two coffee tables that cost less than $15 each. They’re solid, old school sturdy construction. So they were some seriously great finds.
However, I don’t always like the aroma that comes with newly found furnishings & fashions. Mothballs & garage smells are not my perfume of choice! So to get the smell out of your cloth goodies, follow this simple tip. Remove odors from vintage or thrift clothing by spritzing them with a mixture of one part vodka, two parts water. Now, I’ve never drank vodka, but hey, what better reason to buy a bottle! If you only buy it for the purpose of cleaning, it should last you forever.
Other things that I’ve tried & worked are washing garments with baking soda (or vinegar-just not both at the same time), then spraying with fabric refresher & tossing into the dryer. Sometimes all it’ll take is a dryer sheet.
Doing an internet search for the type of material is key. You don’t want to shrink your garment or end up locking in an odor you’re trying to remove! With all items, make sure you cleanse them thoroughly before putting them on. Even if you have to spray it with sanitizing spray, make sure it’s clean. Who knows who it was on or where it was before you got it. After it’s fresh & like new, throw on some super chic accessories & own that look!
Oh yeah, before I forget. For your furniture, most times a good 2 or 3 coatings of sanitizing spray followed by furniture cleaner (the basic stuff like Murray’s or even Pledge) will do wonders. Just be sure to allow the sanitizing spray to dry first. Also test in an inconspicuous area before doing the entire piece.

Ok, we dug deep! Here are some really cool (& unheard) ideas for taking care of your jeans.
“If you don’t have time to try on jeans in the store, try the Neck Method: You can determine your size by placing the waistline of the jeans around the diameter of your neck. If the waistline of the pant comfortably meets at back of your neck, then the jeans will fit.”— Sarah Ahmed, C
reative Director, DL1961 Premium Denim
When getting jeans shortened, always ask your tailor to reattach the original hem.
It may cost extra, but it’s worth it. *I’ve also seen a how-to on Pinterest for this one!
Fold jeans like a pro: Lay jeans on a flat surface, fold in half from left to right. Grab the stacked jean legs and fold them in half so the hem of the jeans lines up with the waistband. Fold the jeans in half one more time.
Freeze jeans inside a plastic bag for two days to zap odor without running them through the washing machine.

Been wearing the same ‘ol, same ‘ol for a while? Well here are some styles that will work for your workplace! I’ve included models of different sizes to give you ideas!
I’ve paired some basic pieces & outfits that you can add a blazer or sweater to if needed to make it look more professional (or if your office is cold).
Statement necklace sets paired with basic pieces for impact.
Here’s a diagram I found that gives good insight for proper office attire. Take a look at the don’t section. #1 is too low-cut & the straps are inappropriate. #2 is too busy with pattern & a bit too close cut. #3 appears to be a swimsuit coverup (you may be able to redeem that one with a red blazer & belt if you wear pumps). #4 is along the same lines. Keep in mind that when you belt a dress, the hemline should still fall at the knee or 1″ above, max. If not, when you sit down, it’ll all be on display!
This is a perfect ensemble for work (the shoes may be a hazard depending on the flooring. Keep them modest so your feet aren’t sore, bleeding or swollen by the end of the day).
So, what if you’re new & you don’t know what in the world you CAN wear? I’ve worked in offices before & I’ll be honest. Sometimes finding the “office climate” for your attire can be challenging. Some people wear this, others wear that. There are a few ways to figure out what you should be wearing in your office.
1. Ask your boss! Poll your coworkers. This is presuming you work with a normal set of people (no pervs, social climbers, nut jobs or someone completely unengaged with their workplace).
2. Observe what others wear & their position in the company. Who is the most tastefully dressed? Who is doing well in the company & their attire is always praised? Now, be careful! I don’t mean “that chick”. You know, the office pin-up. If you want to keep your job, don’t become a liability to the company. Can you say “Sexual Harassment Lawsuit”?
3. Ask HR. Their job is to help you figure out what’s ok & what’s a little out there for your workplace.

Many young ladies ask me how to transform their college gear to workplace class. They’re entering the workforce & want to be taken seriously & be poised to get a promotion. Many times opportunities are missed because of the choice of attire. It’s not too hard to make the transition if you stay away from being gaudy. A lot of current fashions call for jewelry to be completely over the top in size, color & volume. However, there’s an easy way to wear the current styles without going too far. So I’m being clear, let’s look at the definition of gaudy.
Merriam-Webster defines gaudy as:
1.ostentatiously or tastelessly ornamented

Everyone has mishaps with their wardrobe. So here are some great tips to help you get rid of dirt, lipstick stains & fading jeans!
To clean dirt off suede, remove the crust from a piece of bread and allow it to become stale. Gently rub dirt and stains with the edge of the stale bread, and they’ll disappear. To de-scuff suede, use an eraser or nail file.
“Use hairspray to remove a lipstick stain.” – Kaelen Haworth, designer, KAELEN
Add a 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to the final rinse cycle while doing laundry to maintain the wash of your favorite pair of dark jeans.

Sometimes you just want a little touch of elegance. A little sparkle, shimmer or shine to show the world you’re feeling that twinkle. So how do you do that without going overboard? Well, some would say it’s an art. Some say there are rules. Some say you have to have an eye for it. Well, it may be all of the above. But I can help you if you don’t know. I have a couple of ladies who have asked me to go commando on their closets to help them discover new capabilities. They want a new frontier. A new look! So where do I start?
I consider a few things:
What are their personalities/style?
What inner potential are they hiding or diluting?
What’s their day like?
When I consider those things, it makes it easier to make new outfits and creations. Now, you may notice I didn’t mention one thing: budget. That’s right, I left it out on purpose. Know why? It’s irrelevant. Don’t think so? Well, let me just say that I’ve lived on around 6 figures down to almost 4 figures & it really doesn’t matter. Chef Geausteu from the movie Ratatouille who said “Food will always come to those who cook”. I say ideas will always come to those who are fashionable! Whether your budget is nonexistent or boundless, you still have to do a little work to make the dream a reality.
What’s your personality/style? If you’re minimalist, stick with pieces that make a statement, but not too loud. Pendants can have a little sparkle & still add elegance.
If you’re a little more adventurous, then you may be into charm necklaces. These can be single, double or multistrand styles which are usually available in a wide variety of colors. These styles are less conservative, but still can be quite chic.
Finally, we’ll cover those true pioneers, the Divas. Not afraid of color, size or others’ opinions, these styles can be bold, daring and extravagant (in a good way). These styles are for the fearless and the fierce!
What inner potential are you hiding or diluting?
Do you wear what you do because that’s what’s expected of you? Many are held back from expressing themselves by tradition, status quo or other people’s opinions of how they should be. Your family, job, friends, church, or other atmospheres can play a big part in how you look. Or they can play a bit part. It’s up to you! Examine how you feel when you get dressed. If you go shopping with a friend, what do they say is “you”? Is it accurate? Dare to be exactly who you are on the inside. But portray that on the outside!
What’s your day like?
Ok, I’ll be honest. Sometimes you just can’t wear what you want to wear because of how your day goes. 5″ heels aren’t a smart move if you walk 8 hours a day. Skirt suits aren’t the way to go if you work with animals (I would think). And wearing dresses may not work if you’re a track coach. I don’t know what you do, but I know what you wear should be practical and can also be fashionable. So don’t hold back! Try new things. Stretch those creative muscles. Don a hat, throw on a scarf, parade a pin! Wear things in new & interesting ways to express your own unique personality.
Enjoy your life!
